SACRILEGES !

This exhibition explores the theme of sacrilege in a very broad way, both in terms of time (from Socrates to the present day) and definition (sacrilege as an attack on what is considered sacred at a given time by a society). The exhibition is divided into three parts, the first of which focuses on the construction of a ‘royal religion’ and the creation of a ban based on the notions of ‘blasphemy’, ‘lèsemajesté’ and ‘heresy’, the second on the links between power and the sacred, and the third on respect for religion and the creation of a secular state. In order to give visitors a spatial understanding of these notions of sacrilege in relation to what is considered sacred, we propose to highlight the duality that exists between the two notions. One is revealed by the other: sacrilege can only be understood through its attack on the sacred.

Cette exposition se propose d’explorer le thème du sacrilège de manière très large, dans le temps (de Socrate à nos jours) comme dans sa définition (le sacrilège comme une atteinte à ce qui est considéré comme sacré à un moment donné par une société).

Elle se compose en trois parties qui s’articulent dans un premier temps autour de la construction d’une «religion royale» et de la création d’un interdit avec les notions de «blasphème», «lèsemajesté» et «hérésie», dans un deuxième temps autour des liens qu’entretiennent le pouvoir et le sacré, et dans un troisième temps autour du respect de la religion, et de la question de la création d’un Etat laïque.

Afin de faire comprendre spatialement au visiteur ces notions de sacrilège face à ce qu’on considère comme sacré, nous proposons de souligner la dualité qui existe entre les deux notions. L’une se révèle par l’autre : le sacrilège ne se comprend que par son atteinte au sacré.
