ROBERT RYMAN, LE REGARD EN ACTE

The aim of this exhibition is to show painting in its simplest form. The space in which the works are displayed plays a fundamental role: it reveals. 

Our scenographic intervention takes on its full meaning through a spatial research in which each point of view is worked out in such a way as to show all the richness of R. Ryman's work. Through repetition in the act of making, around white but also around the notions of surface-boundary-space-duration-light, this exhibition is a tribute to the creative process. In the same way that R. Ryman exhausts these fundamental elements in order to reveal them in relation to each other, the way in which the works have been arranged also makes it possible to link together all the notions that make up the artist's painting. So we propose to articulate the 5 themes in the main exhibition room like a single large canvas, a single square made up of all these notions.

Il s’agit dans cette exposition de donner à voir la peinture dans sa plus simple épure. L’espace dans lequel les oeuvres s’inscrivent joue alors un rôle fondamental: il révèle. Notre intervention scénographique prend son sens à travers une recherche spatiale où chaque point de vue est travaillé de manière à montrer toute la richesse du travail de R. Ryman. À travers la répétition dans l’acte de faire, autour du blanc mais aussi autour des notions de surface-limite-espace-durée-lumière, cette exposition représente un éloge au processus créatif. Faire, transformer, refaire, telle est l’obsession de tout artiste.

Tout comme R. Ryman épuise ces éléments fondamentaux pour mieux les faire se révéler entre eux, la mise en espace des oeuvres permet, elle aussi, de mettre en lien toutes les notions qui composent la peinture de l’artiste. Ainsi nous proposons d’articuler les 5 thématiques dans la salle d’exposition principale tel une seule grande toile, un seul carré se constituant de toutes ces notions.
