CHAMPOLLION

For us, the "Champollion" exhibition evokes two parallel paths to be taken by the visitor, that of a journey through signs and writings to decipher their meaning, and that of the creation of a science, Egyptology. In this exhibition devoted to the immense treasure bequeathed by Champollion to posterity around the 88 volumes of notes and archives, the figure of Champollion is placed at the centre of a radiating plan, like a pivot marking a before and after in the history of a civilisation, implying a circular journey for the visitor, aiming to show a progression from the enigma of hieroglyphs to the rediscovered meaning of a civilisation. Our scenographic and graphic proposal is based on a double-sided wall dividing the exhibition space into two main parts: the hidden/enigma and the revealed/discovery, with Champollion in the centre opening the door to an entire civilisation. A half-open door allowing the visitor to pass through on either side of the wall becomes a metaphor for Champollion's discovery.

L’exposition « Champollion » évoque pour nous deux chemins parallèles à engager par le visiteur, celui d’une traversée à travers les signes et les écritures pour en déchiffrer le sens, et celui de la fabrique d’une science, l’égyptologie. Dans cette exposition consacrée à l’immense trésor légué par Champollion à la postérité autour des 88 volumes de notes et d’archives, la figure de Champollion est placée au centre d’un plan rayonnant, tel un pivot marquant un avant et un après dans l’histoire

d’une civilisation, impliquant un parcours circulaire du visiteur visant à montrer une progression depuis l’énigme des hiéroglyphes vers le sens retrouvé d’une civilisation. Notre proposition scénographique et graphique s’articule autour d’un mur recto-verso scindant l’espace d’exposition en 2 grandes parties: le caché/l’énigme et le révélé/la découverte, avec au centre, Champollion ouvrant la porte sur une civilisation entière. Une porte entrouverte permettant le franchissement du visiteur de chaque coté du mur devient alors métaphore de la découverte de Champollion.
